It's We The People, People

In a discussion of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's use of the filibuster across the board, including for judicial nominations,Ian Milhiser at Think Progress wrote:

"So while McConnell’s claim to consistency on judicial filibusters is obviously false, he has been consistent on one thing: doing everything in his power to make sure only conservatives are allowed to govern."

When the Republicans read the Constitution, maybe they need to slow down and focus on the first three words: "We the People."

The Constitution is not for or about conservatives, it is about We the People and I believe they need to understand that they do not hold the only acceptable views of what our country is or what it means to be an American.

Repeat after me: "We the People...."

  1. To point the finger only at the Republicans is intellectually dishonest. The Democrats had 4 years as the majority in Congress and two years running both Congress and the Executive.

Please don't tell me "deem and pass," purchasing votes (Sen Ben Nelson, Sen Mary Landrieu, and Rep. Bart Stupak to name three), and "we have to pass the bill to know what is in the bill" is good for We the People.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not defending the Republicans. I am of the opinion that our government no longer upholds its fiduciary responsibilities to the Constitution on behalf of its constituents.

No longer do our representatives actually follow through on their responsibilities to be our agents, servants, and guardians of the Constitution. They do not honor any limits on their power, act in a manner loyal to the interests of those they work for and avoid conflicts of interest, act in good faith, exercise judgement (they are beholden to their party), not to delegate power delegated to them to other branches of the government (allowing executive agencies legislate and relying on the judiciary to resolve constitutionality questions), and treating all of us impartially.
